"The Importance of Physical Activity During Growth: Nurturing Mental and Physical Health"
In the physical education classes, children receive instruction from dedicated teachers in activities such as mat exercises, vaulting, ball and bar exercises, rope jumping, and fun games, as well as practice for sports day.
Rich physical experiences during this period stimulate the development of the brain, stabilize emotions, and contribute to healthy physical and mental growth. While children's development is interlinked with "body," "mind," and "head," modern education often focuses primarily on the "head," neglecting the importance of "body" and "mind." For harmonious development, education should be centered around the "body," which relates to sensory and motor development.
Recently, the decline in physical fitness among elementary and middle school students has been highlighted in newspapers and sports media. Although physical stature has improved compared to a decade ago, physical strength has been decreasing over the years. This trend is related to the interest and experience in physical activities during early childhood. By improving physical strength through various exercises, children also develop autonomy, proactivity, creativity, independence, and perseverance, experiencing satisfaction and success. This helps them learn to cooperate with friends and follow rules, fostering social skills.
Our school guides children to grow up bright and healthy through age-appropriate, enjoyable physical activities. In addition to indoor activities, we make use of nearby sports halls and parks, such as Yoshida River Park, incorporating active summer activities like swimming and winter activities like sledding.
2. Rhythmics
"To Live More Fully as a Human Being: Experiencing, Feeling, and Being Moved"
It is said that for humans to live more fully, the starting point is to "see," "hear," "touch," and feel things, and then be moved by them. The ability to feel and be moved connects to thinking, leading to children's free imagination and creativity. During early childhood, it is crucial for children to express their experiences using their entire bodies, whether through what they see, hear, touch, or think about. These actions significantly enhance a child's imaginative abilities and nurture their power to fully express what comes to mind.
Children explore themes related to their immediate surroundings, such as nature, animals, plants, and daily life, through music. By carefully listening to the music provided by their teachers, reacting immediately, and expressing themselves with their whole bodies, children develop skills such as "immediate reaction ability," "attention," "concentration," "memory," and "thinking ability."
3. Hip-hop Dance Lessons
ancing to music is not only a fun way to move your body but also helps develop rhythm and balance. It allows children to experience the joy of dancing freely to the rhythm, as well as interacting and dancing with others. Moving to the rhythm of pleasant music helps liberate both body and mind, and sharing movements with peers fosters a sense of unity.
By starting dance at a young age, children naturally develop a sense of rhythm that benefits them in various fields, including music and sports. Since dance became a mandatory part of middle school curriculums starting in 2012, it has gained increasing attention as an extracurricular activity for young children.
At our school, children practice under the guidance of a dance specialist, showcasing their progress in the Christmas concert held in December. This event provides an opportunity for children to perform on stage with people from various regions and age groups, fostering their confidence and supporting their overall personal development.
